Ontario Provincial Police say an all-terrain vehicle operator was charged with impaired operation following a traffic stop earlier this month in the Town of Marathon. Police said officers were conducting the proactive ATV patrol on Sept. 8. “Officers conducted a traffic stop on a side-by-side that was being driven on a roadway,” said OPP in a social media post. Charges and penalties As a result of an investigation, the driver of the side-by-side was charged with impaired operation and failure or refusal to comply with a demand. In addition to the charges, the ATV operator received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and the side-by-side was impounded for seven days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Police warning “OPP reminds motorists and off-road vehicle operators that impaired driving laws apply to all motor vehicles, including ATVs and side-by-sides,” wrote police in their post. OPP also advised people who plan to consume alcohol or drugs to arrange for a sober driver and never operate a vehicle while impaired.
