A 39-year-old Walford resident faces multiple charges after an Ontario Provincial Police investigation into intimate partner violence in the Town of Spanish. OPP began investigating the matter on Aug. 10 and made an arrest the following morning. “As a result of the investigation, OPP learned that the involved suspect had committed criminal acts against their partner,” the provincial police said in a release Tuesday. Allegations before the court The accused is charged with spousal assault, two counts of domestic mischief, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to a spouse, criminal harassment, breaking-and-entering a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence, flight from police and six counts of failing to comply with a release order. According to police, the accused was processed and is being held for a bail hearing at a later date in Elliot Lake. Support available Police used the incident to remind the public that no one experiencing intimate partner violence must cope alone. “Victims of intimate partner violence are not alone,” provincial police said. “OPP can be reached anytime, anywhere in the province of Ontario at 1-888-310-1122, or 911 in an emergency.” OPP added there are local resources are also available to help – including Victim Services of Algoma.
