Thunder Bay drug raid yields $126K in cash, weapons, arrests

Police in Thunder Bay, Ont., seized more than seven kilos of cocaine, as well as large amounts of meth and fentanyl, in recent raid of three residences in the city.

Five people have been arrested in what police describe as a long-term investigation of drugs from the Toronto area being trafficked in northwestern Ontario.

Four people from Thunder Bay and one person from Ajax have been charged in the case, Ontario Provincial Police said Thursday.

“(They) are facing a combined 35 charges under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act after a drug trafficking investigation in Thunder Bay and the surrounding communities,” police said in a news release.

Investigation began in 2024

The investigation began in late 2024 involving the OPP’s guns and gangs enforcement team and the police intelligence bureau. It concluded with arrests May 8 with help from Thunder Bay Police and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service.

Seized in the raids were drugs suspected to be 7.2 kg of cocaine, 1 kg of meth, 2.8 grams of fentanyl, 295 oxycodone tablets, four pounds of dried illegal cannabis, 280 cannabis vape pens, 25 vials of hash oil, a loaded firearm, $126,260 in cash and eight cellphones.

All five suspects have been charged with drug trafficking offences, while two face weapons-related charges. All remain in custody.

“Anyone with any information about illegal firearms or the possession, manufacturing or trafficking of illicit drugs should contact the OPP,” police said.
