North Bay U18 Trappers win Great North title, head to provincials

North Bay U18 Trappers are headed to provincials next week after a 5-4 win over the Soo U18 Jr. Greyhounds to win the Great North League championship.

The North Bay U18 AAA Trappers are heading to the Ontario Hockey Federation championship after capturing the Great North U18 League title earlier this month.

The Trappers defeated the Sault Ste. Marie U18 Jr. Greyhounds by a score of 5-4 in the final, which took place in New Liskeard on March 15.

After the Greyhounds scored twice in the third period to tie the game at four, William Fournier scored the game-winning goal for North Bay at 17:27 of the final frame.

Road to the championship

The team’s success this season follows a narrow miss the previous year.

“We won the league championship. Finished what we started last season,” said head coach Josh Dale in an email to CTV News.

The Trappers posted a dominant record of 41-1 during the regular season and remained undefeated through the playoffs with a 6-0 mark.

What’s next

With the league title secured, the Trappers will now represent the north at the OHF Championship in Markham.

The tournament is scheduled to run from March 30 to April 5.
