North Bay to appoint new members to Cassellholme board

Meeting April 7, city council in North Bay is expected to appoint two new members to sit on the Cassellholme board of directors.

The vote comes after two councillors -- Mark King and Chris Mayne – were removed from the board in February following an in-camera vote.

Mayne and King tried to fight that decision by having city council reappoint them. However, councillors rejected that motion at a meeting last month by a vote of 7-4.

The dispute centres on governance of Cassellholme, a long-term care facility in the city, and Castle Arms, which provides non-profit seniors housing and is governed by a separate board of directors.

The disagreement is whether the two facilities should return to having a single board of governors under Cassellholme, which has representatives from all nine area municipalities.

King sat on both the Cassellholme and Castle Arms boards before he was removed from Cassellholme.
