North Bay suspect charged with stunt driving

North Bay police said the vehicle was timed at 95 km/h in a community safety zone where the speed limit is 40 km/h.

Police in North Bay have charged a driver with stunt driving in a school safety zone in a recent incident on Lakeshore Drive in the city.

“Going 55 km/h over the speed limit came with immediate roadside consequences for this driver,” police said in a social media post Jan. 5.

“Charged with stunt driving, their vehicle was impounded for 14 days and their driver’s licence suspended for 30 days, with towing and storage costs at the owner’s expense.”

Police said the vehicle was timed at 95 km/h in a community safety zone where the speed limit is 40 km/h.

“This driver will face a future court date and, if convicted, could face additional consequences,” police said.

Possible penalties include a maximum fine of $10,000, up to six months in jail, six demerit points, higher insurance rates and a driver’s licence suspension from one to three years for a first offence.

“Excessive speed puts lives at risk. Please slow down,” police said.
