North Bay police seize $85K in drugs, vehicle, Rolex and weapons

A 48-year-old North Bay man faces drug trafficking charges after a routine traffic stop led to the seizure of $85,000 in drugs.

A 48-year-old man from North Bay has been charged with several offences as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in the city.

Police seized fentanyl, cocaine, meth and other street drugs valued at more than $85,000, along with several other items, including a vehicle.

The suspect was stopped Sept. 4 around 12:38 p.m. while driving in the Marshall Avenue area, North Bay police said in a news release Friday.

“As part of an ongoing investigation, the accused was arrested without incident,” police said.

“The investigation determined that the accused was actively trafficking controlled substances in North Bay. During an initial search, officers located $1,990 in Canadian currency and a small quantity of fentanyl.”

A search of his residence uncovered drugs, including 73 oxycodone pills, 69 grams of crystal meth, 157.9 grams of cocaine, 147.8 grams of fentanyl and 188.5 grams of methamphetamine pills.

Police also seized a 2018 Kia Stinger, a stun gun with five cartridges, four pellet guns, $8,570 in bundled cash, a women’s Rolex watch and a bulletproof vest.

Charges include drug trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime more than $5,000 and weapons offences.

“This seizure and removal of drugs from circulation represents a significant disruption to the drug trade in our community,” acting deputy chief Jeff Warner said in the release.

The accused was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
