A North Bay man is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, following an intimate partner violence investigation. The North Bay Police Service said it responded on Sunday to a reported assault at a residence in the city’s downtown area involving a male accused and a female victim. Through the investigation, officers uncovered evidence of additional altercations, which resulted in further charges being laid. The accused has been charged with attempt to commit murder, forcible confinement, two counts of uttering threats to cause death, two counts of assault, two counts of assault causing bodily harm and six counts of failing to comply with a probation order. “All parties involved are known to each other, and there is no risk to public safety,” said police in a news release Monday. North Bay police added that the name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing. Police emphasize support for victims Insp. Scott McFarlane of the police service’s criminal investigation section linked the case to broader patterns of domestic violence. “Intimate partner violence often follows patterns of behaviour that can escalate quickly, putting victims in serious danger,” McFarlane said. “Our members are committed to supporting victims, holding offenders accountable and working with community partners to provide safety planning and prevent further harm,” added the inspector.
