Ontario Provincial Police stopped the vehicle around 10:45 a.m. on Aug. 19 on Highway 94. “During the investigation, the officer observed signs consistent with drug impairment,” the OPP said in a news release Aug. 20. Cocaine, crystal meth “The driver was arrested and transported to the North Bay OPP detachment for further testing. As part of the investigation, suspected cocaine and crystal methamphetamine were also located and seized.” The 31-year-old North Bay man has been charged with drugged driving, refusing a demand, cocaine and crystal meth possession, driving without insurance or a valid permit, and driving with cannabis readily available to the driver. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on Oct. 6. His license was automatically suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for a week. “Failing or refusing to comply with a lawful demand made during an impaired driving investigation carries the same serious criminal consequences as impaired driving,” police said. “The OPP remains committed to proactive enforcement initiatives aimed at removing impaired drivers from Ontario roadways.”
