Police in Greater Sudbury say a 33-year-old man suffered “serious” injuries in a what is believed to be a targeted stabbing near the intersection of Cedar Street and Young Street on Sunday afternoon. Police said officers were dispatched to Cedar Street just before 3:25 p.m. on June 14 following a weapons complaint. “Information provided was that an individual had sustained multiple stab wounds and required immediate medical attention,” Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release Monday. Police said that upon arrival, officers located the man, who had serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital by Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services. Suspect at large Investigators have determined that the stabbing involved one unidentified individual. “The person responsible for the attack fled the area prior to police arrival,” police said. Police have released images of the suspect. “(The) description is based on the images, so height, weight and ethnicity are unconfirmed at this time,” said Greater Sudbury police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn in an interview with CTV News. “We’re just asking people to look at the image in order to provide information as to the identity of the individual … We don’t want to bias anybody who may know who the person is.” The police service said investigators believe this was a targeted incident. Dunn added that investigators are unsure if the suspect and victim were known to each other prior to the incident.
