Man killed in head-on crash with transport on Hwy. 17

The driver of a pickup truck was killed Wednesday morning in a head-on collision with a transport truck on Highway 17 near Dryden.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to the crash scene around 9:30 a.m., along with fire services and EMS. The collision took place at the intersection with Latimer Road in Oxdrift.

“The driver of the pickup truck, a 27-year-old male from Sioux Lookout, was pronounced deceased on scene,” the OPP said in a news release Thursday.

“The passenger of the transport truck was transported to hospital with minor injuries.”

The highway was closed for several hours as emergency responders, technical collision investigation and reconstruction teams processed the scene.

The road has since reopened, police said.

“OPP thanks the public for their patience and cooperation,” the release said.
