Man charged with careless driving causing death after fatal Hwy. 101 crash

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a driver following a fatal collision on a northeastern Ontario highway last fall.

OPP had responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 101 in the Porcupine area at about 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 29, 2025.

Police said the crash resulted in one fatality.

“A 69-year-old person from Iroquois Falls was transported by ambulance to a hospital where they died,” OPP said in a news release Monday.

Charge laid following investigation

OPP said its investigation into the incident has now concluded.

As a result, a 20-year-old man from Schumacher has been charged with careless driving causing death.

The accused was released from custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court in Timmins on Feb. 26.
