Ontario Provincial Police say 14 people were charged following a two-day enforcement initiative in Kenora’s downtown core. The initiative, spearheaded by OPP’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, ran from Sept. 1-2 and involved multiple OPP teams along with Treaty Three Police units. Multiple arrests, substances seized Police seized unknown quantities of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and other opioids during the enforcement effort and all 14 accused were local residents, ranging in age from 21 to 44. Charges laid A total of 20 charges were laid, with each of the 14 individuals charged with a minimum of one count of drug possession. Two of the accused, both women aged 30 and 40, face multiple counts of drug possession. Three other individuals – a 30-year-old man, a 32-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man – were also charged with failing to comply with probation orders. All accused have been scheduled for future court appearances. Police statement “The goal of the enforcement initiative was to target open use and possession of controlled substances and other criminal behaviour,” said police in a news release over the weekend. “The OPP is committed to public safety across Ontario. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activity by calling 911 in emergency situations or through the non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.” OPP also noted tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
