Highway 64 is reopened following a serious collision Wednesday afternoon, in which a pedestrian was killed and a motorcycle driver was seriously injured. Emergency crews were called to the scene on Highway 64 around 1:40 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release. The highway was closed in both directions between Shawn Street and Jean Street for nearly six hours. “Local traffic is asked to follow the detour on Labrosse Road, and commercial motor vehicles are asked to plan alternate routes as there is no detour in place,” the OPP said in an update early Wednesday evening. Police said the 75-year-old pedestrian from French River was killed in the collision. “The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported by ORNGE to a regional trauma centre.” The investigation continues with assistance from the OPP technical collision investigators and reconstructionist. “The OPP collision reconstructionist and the traffic collision investigation team are assisting with the investigation, to determine the cause of the collision,” police said. “The investigation remains ongoing, anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact the Nipissing West OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.” Rash of collisions in the area There were two crashes in Greater Sudbury on Tuesday, including one that killed a 44-year-old man and seriously injured another, 43.
