Sudbury police have charged three men and a woman with 10 criminal offences each following a drug trafficking investigation that yielded a loaded firearm, cash, and nearly $90,000 worth of drugs.

The incident began shortly before noon on Wednesday when officers responded to the Beech Street and Elm Street area after receiving information from by-law officers about suspected drug activity.

Patrol officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle on Elm Street.

“The driver was placed under arrest,” the Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release.

“And searched incident to arrest, where officers located over $5,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime.”

The three passengers in the vehicle were also taken into custody and additional officers from other local police units were called in to assist in the investigation.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun, 777 grams of cocaine, 88 grams of fentanyl, and drug packaging materials.

“The estimated value of the drugs is $86,500,” said authorities.

As a result of the investigation, three men – ages 39 to 49 – and a 33-year-old woman are charged with two counts of drug trafficking, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession at an unauthorized place and possession of property obtained by crime, along with four other firearm related offences.

All four accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in bail court on May 15.
