Fatal snowmobile crash under investigation near Wawa

Police are investigating a fatal weekend crash in Cochrane involving a snowmobile and a commercial vehicle that killed a 19-year-old victim from Vaughan.

A 65-year-old Wawa resident is dead following a single-vehicle snowmobile crash on Perry Lake, northeast of the community, on early Saturday morning, according to police.

“March 14, 2026, at approximately 1 a.m., the Superior East OPP responded to a serious, single motorized snow vehicle collision on Perry Lake,” Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.

OPP said the driver of the snowmobile was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police have not released the victim’s identity.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.

Authorities have not released any details related to the potential cause of the crash.
