Logging truck crash on Hwy. 11 on-ramp claims one life

A 70-year-old from Huntsville, Ont., has died after a logging truck rolled over on a Highway 11 on-ramp near Sundridge.

A 70-year-old driver from Huntsville, Ont., has died following a single-vehicle rollover involving a commercial logging truck on a highway on-ramp in northern Ontario.

The incident occurred Sunday morning at about 7 a.m. on the southbound on-ramp from Highway 124 to Highway 11 in Strong Township.

The Ontario Provincial Police, North Bay ambulance services and the Sundridge-Strong Fire Department all responded to the collision.

Driver pronounced deceased after transport to hospital

The driver of the logging truck was transported to hospital by ambulance but was later pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

“The passenger was also transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” said OPP in a news release Monday.

The on-ramp was closed for approximately 12 hours as emergency crews and collision investigators worked at the scene.

The investigation into the cause of the rollover is ongoing.

“Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available,” said police.

OPP have not released the identity of the victim or said if charges are being considered.
