Elliot Lake man charged with theft from hardware store

A local man is facing theft and probation-related charges following an incident at a hardware store on Highway 108 in Elliot Lake.

Ontario Provincial Police say officers responded to a theft in progress at about 5 p.m. on May 12 when staff contacted police.

“The complainant provided a description of the male who had stolen a power tool and left the store on foot,” OPP said in a news release.

OPP said that officers located the man a short time later and he was subsequently arrested.

As a result, the 31-year-old man was charged with theft and failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing in Blind River.
