E-bike operating at night without lights nets drug charges: OPP

A 49-year-old local man faces drug-related and traffic charges after Ontario Provincial Police stopped an e-bike operating without lights in Sturgeon Falls early Tuesday morning.

OPP pulled over the power-assisted bicycle at about 1:40 a.m. on April 28.

“The OPP conducted a traffic stop with a e-bike operating at night without any lights on Nipissing Street,” police said in a news release.

As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested and charged with drug possession and trafficking in property obtained by crime.

He also faces charges for failing to wear a proper helmet on a power-assisted bicycle and operating a motor-assisted bicycle with improper lighting.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on May 14.
