Crews battle two garage fires in the Sault on Sunday

Firefighters in Sault Ste. Marie responded to two residential garage fires in just under an hour in the city on May 3.

The first took place around 7 p.m. in the 100 block of Rossmore Road.

“Upon arrival, there was visible smoke and flames from the detached residential garage,” Sault Fire Services said in a news release May 4.

“Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire. Enbridge Gas attended the scene. Due to the extensive damage to the structural integrity of the garage, the cause of the fire is undetermined.”

No injuries

Officials said there was extensive fire and smoke damage to the detached garage, heat damage to neighbouring structures as well as a vehicle parked near the garage.

There were no injuries.

Then around 8 p.m., crews responded to another residential garage fire, this time in the 400 block of Chambers Avenue.

“Upon arrival, there was visible smoke and flames inside the attached garage,” the release said.

“Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire. After further investigation, the cause of the fire is undetermined.”

In this case, however, there was minimal fire damage but significant smoke damage to the garage. There were no injuries
