A 25-year-old man from southern Ontario is facing multiple charges after police in Greater Sudbury observed him travelling on an electric scooter with suspected drugs. In a news release, Det. Staff Sgt. Darin Heffern said the Greater Sudbury Police Service received information this summer about suspected drug trafficking activities in the downtown core. On Aug. 5 police investigators saw the accused leave a downtown address on an electric scooter and travel to a location on Kathleen Street, where he was subsequently arrested and searched. Cash, drugs seized Police said officers seized about 30 grams of pre-packaged cocaine, two cell phones and $105 in cash during the search. “The estimated street value of the drugs seized is approximately $3,000,” police said in a news release. As a result of the investigation, the man has been charged with drug trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply with a release order. Man has existing court obligations Detectives also determined the accused was currently before the courts in Peel Region on outstanding charges and is subject to release conditions requiring him to reside in Brampton. “The accused was held in custody overnight and appeared in bail court on Aug. 6,” said police. Because the man has no ties to Greater Sudbury, police requested that the court impose a condition prohibiting him from returning to the city except for court-related purposes.
