A 55-year-old Bracebridge man is facing an impaired driving charge after entering a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere spot check in Papineau-Cameron Township over the long weekend. Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a RIDE program on Chant Plein Lake Road on Aug. 2 when a pickup truck approached the checkpoint at about 8 a.m. Arrest, charges and penalties “Officers observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment,” OPP said in a news release. “The driver was arrested and transported to the Mattawa OPP detachment for further testing.” As a result of the investigation, the driver, was charged impaired driving – operation with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. In addition to the charge, the accused also received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his pickup was impounded for seven days. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on Sept. 1. OPP message on impaired driving Provincial police used the incident to emphasize that enforcement efforts will continue as part of their commitment to road safety. “Impaired driving is a criminal offence that puts everyone at risk,” police said. “OPP will continue conducting RIDE programs and targeted traffic enforcement to identify and remove impaired drivers from our roadways.”
