The Timmins Police Service has closed Aunor Beach Road and the surrounding area to the public on Tuesday and Wednesday as officers conduct an evidence search related to an ongoing investigation. The closure takes effect Aug. 18 and will remain in place through Aug. 19. “The closure is necessary to allow investigators to safely and thoroughly conduct the search,” police said in a news release on Tuesday morning. “Access to the beach will be restricted during this time.” Search follows earlier homicide investigation The new operation comes less than one week after officers conducted a similar search at Aunor Beach on Aug. 12. That earlier effort was connected to a homicide investigation stemming from a shooting on Aug. 1 that left one person dead and another seriously injured. Police have not confirmed whether this week’s search is linked to the same case, nor have they disclosed what, if anything, was recovered during the previous search. Public asked to respect closure With the beach off-limits for two full days, police are urging co-operation from the community. “Members of the public are asked to avoid the area and respect the closure while the investigation is underway,” police said. No further details about the nature of the evidence being sought have been released. “Further information will be provided when appropriate,” the local police service said.
