A 17-year-old boy appeared before the Youth Division of the Court of Quebec on Wednesday to face numerous charges following a hit-and-run that killed a cyclist. As he is a minor, his identity is protected. The teen is facing charges of manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop following an accident resulting in death and fleeing from a peace officer. The case is expected to return to court next Monday for a bail hearing. Hit-and-run Last week, Isaac Larivée, an 18-year-old cyclist, was killed in Montreal’s Ahuntsic–Cartierville borough after being hit by a stolen vehicle that was fleeing from Quebec provincial police. According to Montreal police (SPVM), the cyclist was crossing the intersection of Jeanne-Mance Street and Henri-Bourassa Boulevard when he was struck head-on by the vehicle, which was reportedly travelling at high speeds. A road sign near the collision site shows that the speed limit on Jeanne-Mance Street is 30 km/h. After the collision, police say the driver fled the scene and was arrested on Tuesday. As the incident involves police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), six investigators from Quebec’s police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), have been assigned to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident. Following the tragedy, Ahuntsic-Cartierville Mayor Maude Théroux-Séguin said the borough’s urban planning and mobility department would be conducting a technical analysis of the intersection as part of its post-collision protocol.
