Former Montreal hospital worker accused of sex-related offences

A man who worked at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital has been accused of sex-related offences, with Montreal police (SPVM) now searching for other potential victims.

Abdelaali Laaziz, 49, was arrested on Feb. 11 and appeared in court to face a charge of sexual assault.

“The alleged acts were committed last December while he was working as a patient attendant,” the SPVM said in a news release. “Investigators have evidence suggesting that other people may have been victims of Abdelaali Laaziz.”

Police say the patient attendant, who worked in eastern Montreal, was in contact with several vulnerable people.

“The information gathered suggests that he took advantage of his position to perform sexual acts on certain patients,” the SPVM said. “He also allegedly offered unnecessary care, or care that was not part of the treatment plan, using these pretexts to commit other acts of a sexual nature.”

Laaziz is 1.74 m (5′7″) and weighs 71 kg (156 lbs).

He has brown eyes and hair, and speaks French.

“The investigation team is seeking to identify any other individuals who may have been victims or witnesses to similar behaviour,” the SPVM said.
