Hema-Quebec lab workers on strike

Some 40 union members at Hema-Quebec’s laboratory in Quebec City are on strike.

The workers are members of the Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux (APTS).

The strike runs from 12.01 a.m. on May 8 to 11.59 p.m. on May 9.

The union says the dispute mainly concerns parity in regards to what was granted to employees in the public and parapublic sectors.

Essential health services by Hema-Quebec are still being provided, including the collection, transportation and distribution of blood, blood derivatives and human tissues

The strike agreement between the two parties, which was ratified by the Administrative Labour Tribunal, stipulates that all employees on duty shall be present and work part of their normal hours, at a rate of 80 per cent.

When asked for comment, Hema-Quebec management said it was satisfied with the agreement regarding essential services maintained during the strike.

However, it did not comment on the negotiations with the APTS.

“Hema-Quebec is currently waiting to hear back from the union side to confirm negotiation dates. We naturally wish to continue discussions with a view to reaching an agreement,” the organization said.
