Quebec’s ‘Queen of the Main’ Madame Simone has died

Quebec drag queen Madame Simone, also known as the “Queen of the Main,” has died.

Her colleague, Mado Lamotte, confirmed the news on social media.

“I am speechless. The most eccentric character of our Montreal nights, the queen of creativity and extravagance, has gone to entertain the angels and demons with her winks and devastating smiles,” wrote the iconic figure of Cabaret Mado.

The post had garnered more than 220 comments and 1.4 reactions so far, with one person recalling that Madame Simone was “the first drag queen I ever loved, who amazed me, surprised me, seduced me, while I was dancing the night away on Tuesdays at Sky with DJ Mado Lamotte.”

They continue, “I was in the midst of coming out and discovering the madness of her character, whom I enjoyed seeing again and again over the years, gaining confidence in this new environment. Thank you for being a beacon, a spotlight, a spark, a queen of the night, and above all, the best kisser. My deepest condolences to all of you.”

Another person wrote, “My sincere condolences. I have only good memories, laughter, and lots of fun. Her joie de vivre was contagious, and I admired her eccentricity. Goodbye, Madame Simone.”

Others expressed shock at her passing, writing, “I was always happy to see her in front of Cabaret Mado, and we always took the time to chat. It’s sad... She was too young to leave us.”
