Woman, 18, killed in case of domestic violence; young man in Montreal police custody

An 18-year-old woman is dead and a young man is in custody Tuesday after a case of domestic violence in Montreal.

The victim was allegedly strangled by her partner in an apartment in the city’s Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough

The case marks the eighth suspected femicide in Quebec and the sixth killing in Montreal since the start of 2026.

Montreal police officers responded to an apartment on Everett Street near 19th Avenue around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday and found the woman unconscious. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers arrested a suspect, a 20-year-old man, at the scene and he was set to be questioned by investigators.

The police’s major crime section is leading the investigation, which was still ongoing Tuesday evening.
