A 60-year-old man is in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Montreal’s La Petite-Patrie neighbourhood just before midnight. Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 11:55 p.m. about the collision on Papineau Avenue just south of Saint-Zotique Street East. When officers arrived, they located the man in a semi-conscious state with multiple injuries. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. “The vehicle was travelling southbound on Papineau and shortly after the intersection with Saint-Zotique, the pedestrian reportedly stepped into the road. The vehicle then struck him,” said SPVM spokesperson Johany Charland. Authorities said later that his condition stabilized. The 22-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle was treated for shock but sustained no other injuries and did not require transport to the hospital. Charland said there was no evidence to suggest that the collision was a criminal act. The collision investigation unit is handling the file.
