The Federation of Early Childhood Educators (FIPEQ) is calling for the strengthening of the public network of early childhood centres (CPEs) and for the resolution of issues with the Child Care Registration Portal. Its president, Anne-Marie Bellerose, argues that spots in subsidized private daycare centres have been prioritized over spots in early childhood centres (CPEs), which she views as a lack of long-term vision. And while several news reports in recent days have highlighted problems with the new Child Care Registration Portal—which was supposed to streamline the process—she is calling for these issues to be resolved as quickly as possible, for the sake of parents and children. The problem of retaining and attracting workers in the child care sector also persists. Bellerose believes that, to attract more candidates to the profession and retain those who are already in it, working conditions will need to be further improved. FIPEQ, which is affiliated with the CSQ, represents approximately 12,000 workers, both in early childhood centres and in regulated family daycare homes.
