Paramedics with Urgences-Santé have rejected their tentative agreement, causing potential turmoil for the overall outcome of lengthy negotiations to renew the collective agreements of several paramedic unions. The paramedic ambulance technicians are members of several unions affiliated with the Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux (FSSS) under the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN). The federation had reached an agreement in principle at the end of July to renew the collective agreements of its various unions. Members have until Aug. 16 to vote. However, those working with Urgences-Santé, which covers Montreal and Laval, have already rejected it. The FSSS stated on Monday that the vote is subject to a double-majority rule within the union and the federation at large, and the final result remains to be seen.
