About 10 months after Montreal public transit (STM) workers plastered buses, metros and other areas with stickers and posters, crews are still cleaning them up. The STM says that it counted over 2,300 posters in garages, metro stations and on buses, and that a major cleanup operation was needed. The organization says that employees have spent over 2,000 hours removing the protest signs and that it’s not finished. Put in numbers, the STM estimates the labour cost to be $107,000. “We have filed a ‘grief patronal’ (employer complaint) to the drivers’ union, and it is currently contested,” said STM spokesperson Amélie Régis. “We have an agreement with the maintenance union for a maximum of $35,000 but we have not yet sent the bills as the cleaning work is not yet completed.” The STM refused to provide further details in an interview request.
