The Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) confirmed on Thursday that it is suspending operations at its Place Vertu service centre in Montreal. “This suspension will remain in effect until the conclusion of an ongoing investigation,” the Crown corporation said in a statement. It would not dive deeper into what the probe hoped to uncover, only stating that it received “reports from customers,” which led its investigative department to “conduct checks to verify the validity of these allegations.” The SAAQ is refusing to comment further on the investigation, “in order not to interfere.” The corporation adds that it plans to contact customers with outstanding appointments to offer them a date at a nearby service point, including the Kirkland and Henri-Bourassa service centres. “The SAAQ is aware that this situation may cause inconvenience to its customers,” the corporation said. “We thank them for their understanding and cooperation.” Customers can also conduct some transactions online.
