Rosemere council adopts motion calling for Quebec to ban sale of energy drinks to minors

Zachary Miron died after drinking Red Bull while on ADHD medication, according to Quebec's coroner.

The City of Rosemere held a special council meeting Tuesday to try to limit the sale of energy drinks on its properties.

The move comes after 15-year-old Zachary Miron of Blainville, who went to school in Rosemere, died after consuming an energy drink while on ADHD medication.

Miron’s father, David Miron, attended the meeting and thanked the mayor and town for their initiative.

The town council wants to stop the sale of energy drinks in its public sports and recreation establishments. It also passed a resolution asking the Government of Quebec to ban energy drinks from being sold to all minors under the age of 16 across the province before the National Assembly adjourns for the summer break.

Several school organizations have called for a ban on the sale of the energy drinks to minors since Miron’s death in the winter of 2024. The teen’s parents have also met with Quebec’s health minister as they push for the ban across the province.
