Anyone who purchased “Trompe L’Oeil” pastries from various bakeries in the Montreal area is advised to not consume certain products. Quebec’s agriculture ministry (MAPAQ) and the City of Montreal Food Inspection Division said certain products may include Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. “The products that are the subject of this warning were offered for sale until August 14, 2026,” the warning reads. The following bakeries are affected: The operator is recalling all products as a precaution, and anyone who has purchased one of the products should not consume them. “Food contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus bacteria may not show any visible signs of spoilage or have a suspicious odour, but it can still make someone who eats it sick,” the warning reads. “Staphylococcal food poisoning is characterized by the sudden onset of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, cramps, and diarrhea.” Symptoms should appear between a half hour and eight hours after eating contaminated food.
