A road once considered one of the worst on the Island of Montreal is finally being repaired. Construction has started to fix Ellerdale Street in Hampstead after a years-long stand-off between the town and the City of Montreal. According to the Town of Hampstead, it waited 10 years for Montreal to provide information about the water main beneath the street, a crucial piece of the puzzle to prevent water damage during construction. The delays, the town’s officials argued, prevented any possible work in the area. Finally, in January, Hampstead confirmed that, following engineering checks on the street, it had approved a $1-million contract to revive the area, with roadwork being a “top priority” for 2026, according to town officials. Work on Ellerdale Street is expected to last three weeks.
