The City of Montreal and the Canadian Space Agency, located in Saint-Hubert on the South Shore, got a special shoutout from the astronauts aboard Artemis II. “I flew to the International Space Station in 2014, and before we go up there, we have to go to Montreal, to the Canadian Space Agency, and do training up there,” Commander Reid Wiseman said during a call with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. “It was amazing. In just one week of my robotics training up there, I have lifelong friends from Canada, and I am honoured to serve alongside Jeremy [Hansen], Josh [Kutryk] and Jenni [Gibbons], truly the finest astronauts I have ever met.” Carney also took some time to thank Hansen for speaking French while on the 10-day lunar flyby mission, telling him that “Canadians are so proud of you.” “It was incredible to hear you speaking French for the first time in space,” he said. Hansen responded, “For me, it was important to share that I’m so proud of Canada, which worked so hard to create this opportunity to be here in space. I’m also proud of you, Canada.” The astronauts are set to return to Earth on Friday.
