Montreal area under severe thunderstorm watch

Parts of southern Quebec, including the Montreal area, are under a severe thunderstorm watch.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued the alert shortly before 10:30 a.m. Thursday and warned that “conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.”

The weather agency also says that strong winds can damage trees and buildings.

The forecast is calling for a high of 26 C under a mix of sun and clouds. The humidex will make it feel more like 30.

The UV index is 6 or high.
