62-year-old man killed, woman critically injured in RDP crash

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after a multi-vehicle crash left a 62-year-old man dead and a 20-year-old woman in critical condition in the Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough.

According to the SPVM, several 911 calls were made reporting a collision near the intersection of Sherbrooke Street East and Réal-Benoit Street.

“When officers arrived on the scene, they immediately assisted the people who were injured in the crash,” an SPVM spokesperson said.

“A 60-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman aged 20, who was found unconscious at the scene was transported to hospital in critical condition.”

Three other occupants were also taken to hospital.

According to initial information, the 20-year-old driver was travelling westbound on Sherbrooke Street East and swerved to avoid a motorist who was travelling in the opposite direction and making a left turn onto Réal-Benoit Street.

She then reportedly collided with another driver — the 62-year-old man— who was heading eastbound on Sherbrooke Street East.

“The impact reportedly involved two other vehicles, including an STM bus. The occupants were not injured.”

A security perimeter has been established. The investigation was ongoing.
