Hudson woman hit by drunk driver rebuilding her life 10 years later

Tina Lyon-Adams is still rebuilding her life 10 years after she was hit by a drunk driver and endured more than 20 surgeries.

Ten years ago, Tina Lyon-Adams from Hudson was hit by a drunk driver while jogging near her home. She was 20. Her friend survived, but Lyon-Adams suffered the worst of the impact and spent six days in a coma.

“I’m walking with the walker. Still in quite a bit of pain but I know I’m probably always going to have to live with the pain,” she said to CTV news in 2015.

Over the past decade, she has undergone more than 20 surgeries, including three ligament transplants, a hip replacement and pelvic reconstruction.

“Physically, emotionally, I’ve had a lot of damage,” she said. Doctors once told her she would never be able to carry a child because of her reconstructed pelvis.

Determined to regain her strength, Lyon-Adams reached out to personal trainer Jeanie Harbour-Lambrinos a year after the crash.

“You’re never going to see someone work harder than Tina,” Harbour-Lambrinos said. “This is her way of life. She lives with a body that is restructured.”

Around the same time, Lyon-Adams met Jeffrey Judd.

“He knew nothing about what happened to me,” she said. Judd stood by her.

“It didn’t matter,” he said. “She’s a fantastic woman and worth it in every way.”

Four years ago, Lyon-Adams learned she was pregnant.

“I was so happy. It was meant to be.”

Now, she and Judd are parents to two daughters — Madeleine, 3, and Lilly, 18 months. They were married last August.

“I am truly blessed. They’re my miracle girls,” Lyon-Adams said.

While the man who hit her served eight months in prison, Lyon-Adams says she received a life sentence.

“Ten years ago somebody decided to take the wheel highly intoxicated, and that moment didn’t just change a moment — it changed a lifetime.”

She has forgiven him — but not forgotten.

“I’ve forgiven him for myself,” she said. “But every pain, every surgery, every setback reminds me of what happened.”
