A special weather statement has now been dropped for Montreal and much of the surrounding region after a burst of snow Friday afternoon. Environment Canada had warned that snowfall rates could reach two centimetres per hour between noon and 5 p.m., with total accumulations of five to 10 centimetres. That warning was dropped as of 3:15 p.m. The statement covered Montreal Island, Laval, Longueuil-Varennes, Châteauguay-La Prairie, and Vaudreuil, as well as the Outaouais, Laurentians, Montérégie and Eastern Townships. Environment Canada was advising residents to delay non-essential travel during that window, as roads could be slippery with reduced visibility.
