Former Second Cup franchisee Mai Abdulhadi has been charged with uttering threats in relation to events during a pro-Palestinian protest in November in Montreal. At the time, the woman who runs two Second Cup cafes at the Jewish General Hospital was allegedly identified in a video making hateful remarks and gestures during the protest. The video was shared widely on social media. The coffee chain said at the time that her actions breached their agreement and violated the company’s inclusion and community values. Second Cup terminated her franchise agreements. A charge sheet from the Montreal crown prosecutor’s office (DPCP) cites three incidents, involving three different people on the day. She was arrested in December.
