A 61-year-old man is in critical condition in the hospital after crashing into a tree on Montreal’s West Island. Montreal police (SPVM) said that 911 calls at around 12:55 p.m. reported a single-vehicle crash on Sources Boulevard between Avro Street and Hymus Boulevard in Pointe-Claire. “For a reason that are still unknown as we speak, the driver hit a tree while driving north,” said SPVM spokesperson Johany Charland. The driver was alone in the vehicle. Charland said he was conscious when officers arrived and was speaking to first responders. On the way to the hospital, however, his condition deteriorated, and his condition became critical. Investigators were sent to the scene to try to understand the causes and circumstances that led to the crash. Charland said that the primary theory is that the driver experienced a health crisis before crashing. “There is nothing criminal that police officers were able to see at first sight,” she said. There were no other injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
