The Montreal Canadiens recalled defenceman David Reinbacher from the AHL’s Laval Rocket on Wednesday ahead of their game against the Washington Capitals. The move comes after veteran defenceman Mike Matheson suffered a lower-body injury in Saturday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings. Matheson missed Tuesday’s 4-3 shootout victory over the Buffalo Sabres and is listed as day-to-day. Reinbacher was selected fifth overall by Montreal in the 2023 NHL draft. The 21-year-old Austrian made his NHL debut in April and appeared in two games with the Canadiens last season. Montreal visits Washington tonight looking for its third straight win.
