After a weekend of very cold temperatures, Montrealers should brace for a lot of snow. Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning on Sunday, and says that between 15 and 25 centimetres of snow could fall until Monday evening. “A snowfall rate of one to two centimetres per hour is expected from this evening until Monday morning,” the warning reads. “Powdery snow will be easily carried by winds resulting in reduced visibilities locally. Cold temperatures combined with snow will make surfaces slippery.” The dump of snow, mixed with cold temperatures, means that Monday’s commute may be particularly slow, especially during rush hours, and drivers should allow extra time for travel. The warning also includes the Lower Laurentians, Lanaudiere, Bois-Francs, Quebec City and Beauce regions. The skies are forecast to clear on Tuesday with temperatures between -12 and -16 C. Flights cancelled While flights out of Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport continued to take off as of Sunday evening, many flights were cancelled due to the storm. Flights to Toronto, Halifax, Boston, New York and other cities were cancelled due to the extreme cold and snow. “As always, we strongly recommend that travellers check their flight schedule with their carrier before heading to the airport, regardless of weather conditions,” said Aeroports de Montreal spokesperson Anne-Sophie Hamel. “We also encourage them to plan their travel carefully and arrive at YUL at least three hours in advance.” Up-to-date arrival and departure information can be found on the airport’s website.
