Fresh off a record-setting heat wave, residents in the Montreal region can get ready for some wet weather on the weekend. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a special weather statement for the Montreal, Laval and Vaudreuil regions, calling for rain and thunderstorms to end the week. “Total rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 millimetres are expected,” the alert reads. “However, additional rainfall produced by thunderstorms may lead to total rainfall amounts in excess of 50 millimetres.” The rain is forecast to start Friday afternoon and fall through to Sunday. The alert also includes the Montérégie, Eastern Townships, Bois-Francs, Lanaudière, the Laurentians, the Outaouais and Témiscamingue regions. “This system has the potential to generate significant rainfall amounts from Friday to Sunday,” the alert reads. “The heavier precipitation are expected from Friday evening to Saturday evening.” Record-setting heat On Tuesday, Montreal broke the record for the highest temperature in the month of June when the mercury rose to 35.6 C.
