The Montreal metropolitan regional transport authority (ARTM) says that it is reversing course for the time being on cancelling the 91 and 40 bus lines. Officials from several communities protested the cancellation of the popular 40 express bus line, which heads out from Vaudreuil train station to the Côte-Vertu metro terminal. Many who attend CEGEPs and universities in Montreal use the bus. The cancellation, as well as that of the 91 line, was part of a reorganization of bus networks to “better connect people to the REM and, ultimately, to offer faster and more frequent journeys to the main employment, education and leisure hubs, particularly via Anse-à-l’Orme station, without increasing fares,” ARTM director Philippe Dubé said on Wednesday. Dubé said that the 91 route will continue on its current timetable until May 29, and the 40 express will continue during peak hours and also be available off-peak hours, but at a “reduced frequency.” “We are well aware that these changes will alter people’s routines, especially for students and workers who use these routes on a daily basis,” said Dubé. ”We have ensured that these adjustments are coordinated with the end of the academic term: the main college institutions in the area finish their term on May 29." The Anse-a-L’Orme branch will begin service next week. “We continue to work closely with exo, elected representatives and our partners in the western part of the region to ensure the REM is seamlessly integrated into the rest of the network,” said Dubé. “At the ARTM, our priority remains to provide a service that meets the needs of the public, whilst ensuring that every dollar invested maximizes the service for as many people as possible.”
