For those of you who are suffering from post-Olympic depression, it's not too late for one last dose of winter fun. While Whistler is carrying on the party by hosting the Paralympics, ski hills in Alberta are calling with great end of season deals.

The Alberta ski experience is a vastly different from British Columbia's. Alberta's main ski hills, such as Lake Louise, Norquay and Sunshine in Banff and Jasper's Marmot Basin are all located within the boundaries of those national parks. Instead of bustling villages, resort life and the hum of motorized sporting vehicles, skiers are surrounded by peaceful, pristine untouched wilderness.

Hotels and accommodation within the parks are somewhat limited, however townships like Banff and Canmore offer visitors plenty of options. If you choose to stay at one of the few hotels, like The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise or The Post Hotel, within the parks' boundaries, expect to experience a grandeur that harkens back to the days when the national parks were first settled. Banff National Park is celebrating its 125th Anniversary this year.

Alberta is a great value proposition for the winter tourist. The peak season in the national parks is summer, not winter. So un-like some other ski resort areas, Alberta's ski destinations allow for great deals and packages now. In addition, Alberta charges no provincial sales taxes on goods, so there are fewer surprises on that final bill.

And more good news… Alberta is experiencing the best snow in 19 years and officials expect the ski season to last past the end of April.

The province was home to nine World Cup events in December and January, so I figure if it's good enough for your favourite athletes pre-Olympics, then it should be good enough for us aspiring Olympians post-Games!
