The rules for what you can and can’t carry-on seem to be constantly changing as authorities deal with potential security threats. The best place to check for the most up-to-date information is the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority website. In addition to a list of prohibited items, it offers the Prep and Fly Tool; an easy way to walk through the do’s and don’ts of packing. Click here to check it out.

Here are some tips on how you can pack effectively:

  • Make a list ahead of time and avoid the last minute "just in case" urge
  • Limit yourself to as few items as possible
  • Use every nook and cranny of your bag
  • Shove socks and underwear into shoes
  • For men, roll your ties
  • Bring a couple of plastic bags to separate dirty or wet clothes
  • Place a business card inside your luggage so if the handles and tags get ripped off, the bag can be indentified
