‘Travel will likely be challenging’: Snowfall warning issued for London region

CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison is warning residents of a big weather maker coming our way.

Winter is returning with a vengeance.

A snowfall warning is in effect for London-Middlesex, Huron County, Oxford County, eastern Elgin County, Haldimand Norfolk, and towards the Golden Horseshoe and around Toronto.

Some of these areas could see upwards of 20 centimeters of snow.

The London area is under a snowfall warning and snow squall watch, as watches are also in effect for southern Huron County and Chatham-Kent.

A snow squall warning has also been issued in through western Middlesex County and Sarnia Lambton County.

“All of this will be coming into our area tonight through the overnight and early tomorrow morning,” warned CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. “Temperatures are starting to drop.”

“We’re starting to see some good snow develop in and around the London area,” added Atchison. “This will continue in areas east of London.”

Environment Canada is warning of snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm, with reduced visibility at times due to heavy snow and local blowing snow.

Atchison says temperatures are set to drop overnight, feeling like - 18 to - 20.

Come Thursday morning, Atchison warns, “If you’re traveling from London to Toronto, you will be dealing with some heavy snowfall. If you’re traveling west of London, you will encounter snow squalls.”

The snow is expected to taper off Thursday evening.

Wednesday night: Flurries with risk of snow squalls. Local amount 5 to 10 cm except 15 cm west of London. Wind north 30 km/h gusting to 50. Low minus 11. Wind chill minus 8 this evening and minus 18 overnight.

Thursday: Flurries. Risk of snow squalls in the morning and early in the afternoon. Local amount 5 to 10 cm. Wind northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40. Temperature steady near minus 11. Wind chill near minus 19.

Friday: Periods of snow. High minus 2.

Saturday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 2.

Sunday: Cloudy with 40 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 5.

Monday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 6.
